Kevin Finn

MSc Sports & Exercise Medicine, BSc Physiotherapy, BSc Health Science & Physiology

Kevin is a Chartered Physiotherapist with an MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine. He is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Tutor on the MSc Sports and Exercise Medicine programme at the University of South Wales, where he supervises Master’s Degree research projects and teaches modules on injury prevention, assessment, and treatment. He is also an Independent Physiotherapist Prescriber which means that he can prescribe medications up to and including a selection of controlled drugs. He does not currently offer prescription services, but this knowledge helps him in his assessment of patients and injuries.

His experience includes 11 years working in elite professional football, including Norwich City FC’s 1st team in the English Premier League, as well as working with the elite underage academies at Norwich City FC and Coventry City FC. He also worked with Sligo Rovers FC, where he was part of national league and cup winning backroom teams that also competed in Champions League and Europa League qualifiers.

Kevin has worked as a sports physiotherapist at the following international events:

  • Commonwealth Games 2014

  • European Games Baku 2015

  • Rio Olympic Games 2016

  • World Athletics Championships 2017

  • Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games 2017

  • World Indoor Athletics Championships 2018

  • World Para Swimming Championships 2019

  • European Mixed Martial Arts Championships 2016 and 2017

In addition to his sports work, Kevin has been a Band 7 Clinical Lead in the UK’s NHS, managing physiotherapy teams across four hospitals. He has also worked in private orthopaedics in Oxford, England, helping hip and knee surgery patients from pre-op and post-op back to full function or amateur sport.

As a keen martial artist, Kevin has earned his black belt and has won national and international championships as well as sports scholarships in the UK and in Ireland. “I enjoyed the technical and tactical aspect of training, but I also enjoyed the physical and mental preparation. I incorporated HIIT training, running, sprinting, and weightlifting to increase my explosiveness and endurance. I’ve had my share of injuries and this is where I had my first insight into injury rehabilitation and how it impacts a safe return to training as well as improving performance.”
