Jack Dawkins

MSc Sports Physiotherapy, BSc Physiotherapy

Jack is taking a break from clinical work to focus on further studies.

Jack has a Master’s degree in Sports Physiotherapy from the University of Bath and has been working as a physiotherapist since 2011. He has extensive experience of treating musculoskeletal and sporting injuries, having worked for the Ministry of Defence, the UK National Health Service, and in various sports, including football (soccer), rugby, Netball Superleague, athletics, tennis, judo, sailing, and skeleton. He has also been a member of the medical teams at high-profile sporting events such as the World Summer University Games, the Baku European Games, the Invictus Games, and the IPC European Athletics Championships.

“My experience across all these various types of sport has taught me the importance of assessing the specific training and competition demands of a sport and using this to design the correct injury rehabilitation programme to develop a safe return. Working with the British military developed my diagnostic and treatment skills for running injuries. It also gave me experience of managing complex trauma and persistent pain,” says Jack. “I use a structured approach to help people develop the capacity and resilience to return to their specific activity, whether it’s their daily life or sporting interests.”

He has worked with adolescent athletes in professional football academies (Southampton FC, AFC Wimbledon), the British Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, and four UK School Games. He understands the importance of identifying injuries specific to adolescent athletes and how their treatment and management advice will be different to those of adults.

Having had his fair share of injuries, including repeated ankle sprains growing up playing rugby and football, Jack understands the importance of appropriate rehabilitation to decrease the risk of reinjury and to improve performance.

His work in the National Health Service has refined his skills with remote consultations and helped him to recognise problems that may be caused by an underlying medical problem. He can recommend when further investigations, such as blood tests or scans, are needed to assist with a diagnosis. He has the knowledge and experience to manage a variety of orthopaedic problems, including osteoarthritis, fractures, and elective surgeries such as joint replacements.

Jack is a registered International Sports Physiotherapist with the International Federation of Sports Physical Therapy (IFSPT) and was the lead author of an international research publication with the FIFA Medical Assessment and Research Centre in 2021. His research investigated the effects of a strengthening intervention on groin pain in football (soccer) players and this informs his specific interest in both returning people to their desired activities and reducing the risk of reinjury in the future.

“I enjoy working with diverse people, including athletes, weekend warriors, and those with injuries unrelated to sport. I would like to help you to understand your problem and empower you to achieve your goals.”

Jack enjoys paddle boarding, strength training, and cycling as well as playing touch rugby. He is a proud member of the “Club des Cingles du Mont Ventoux” (Mont Ventoux Crazy Club) after cycling up the Giant of Provence, France, three times in one day.
